Van zaterdag 18 oktober tot 21 november is de tentoonstelling Layers of Living te zien bij Casa Vertigo TU/e. De tentoonstelling toont het werk van de Franse architect Renée Gailhoustet (1929-2023), die haar idealen materialiseerde in gebouwde vorm en wooncomplexen creëerde die zich ontvouwen als beleefde landschappen in plaats van starre structuren. Donderdag 13 november, 17:00-18:00 uur, organiseren het Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven en Casa Vertigo een (Engelstalige) lezing over het werk en leven van Renée Gailhoustet.
Speciale gast is Elise Zoetmulder, interieurarchitect en partner van het Delftse bureau ‘Zoetmulder’. Ze schreef een intrigerend essay over haar werk, waarin ze stelt: ‘Renée Gailhoustet is bij velen onbekend. Maar dat moet veranderen: ze was een baanbrekende architect met meer dan 2000 woningen op haar naam (…), ze kon bijzondere sociale architectuur en stedelijke projecten realiseren, waarin de menselijke verbinding centraal stond.’ Zoetmulder zal reflecteren op het leven en oeuvre van Renée Gailhoustet en haar nalatenschap bespreken in de context van de huidige Nederlandse woondebatten. De lezing begint om 17:00 in de Trappenzaal Vertigo TU/e, maar vanaf 16:30 bent u welkom om samen met Elise en de curatoren de tentoonstelling te bekijken.
From Saturday, October 18, to November 21, the exhibition Layers of Living will be on display at Casa Vertigo TU/e. The exhibit presents the work of French architect Renée Gailhoustet (1929-2023), who translated her ideals into built form, creating housing complexes that unfold as lived landscapes rather than rigid structures. In her architecture, spatial qualities were never ends in and of themselves, but the conditions that made community, interaction, and individuality possible. Thursday, November 13th, 17.00-18.00, Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven and Casa Vertigo plan a special Exhibition talk about Renée Gailhoustet’s work and life.
Special guest is Elise Zoetmulder, interior architect and partner of the Delft office ‘Zoetmulder’. She wrote an intriguing essay on her work, stating: ‘Renée Gailhoustet is an unknown to many. But this needs to change: she was a pioneering architect with over 2000 homes to her credit (…), she was able to realize special social architecture and urban development projects in an activist manner, and where human connection was central.’ Zoetmulder will reflect on René Gailhoustet’s life and oeuvre, and discuss her legacy in the context of the current Dutch housing debate.
