Maandag 3 april vertonen Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven en Natlab de documentaire The Proof of the Pudding, een film over de restauratie en transformatie van het Centraal Beheer kantoorcomplex in Apeldoorn. Filmmaker Patrick Minks onderzoekt samen met architect Herman Hertzberger de sociale en architectonische waarde van dit structuralistische bouwwerk, juist op het moment dat wordt verbouwd. Een succesvolle transformatie zal eindelijk de meerwaarde onthullen van wat Hertzberger beschouwt als het kernprincipe van het structuralisme: aanpassingsvermogen. De titel van de film is dan ook ontleend aan Hertzbergers bewering dat deze transformatie ‘the proof of the pudding’ zal zijn. De film The proof of the pudding is onderdeel van een tweeluik over architectuur. Vrijdag 17 maart vertonen Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven en Natlab ook Depot – Reflecting Boijmans van Sonia Herman Dolz. In deze documentaire wordt de kijker meegenomen in de gezamenlijke droom van architect Winy Maas en voormalig Boijmans-directeur Sjarel Ex: de totstandkoming van ‘s werelds eerste volledig publiekelijk toegankelijke museumdepot. Aan de hand van archiefmateriaal uit Bouw Museum Boymans worden ook fraaie parallellen met de constructie van het huidige museumgebouw in de jaren 30 getrokken. Op vrijdag 17 maart spreekt René Erven, coördinator van Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven, met Sonia Herman Dolz en Sjarel Ex naar Natlab voor een Q&A! On Monday 3 April Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven and Natlab present the documentary The Proof of the Pudding, a documentary about the restoration and transformation of the Centraal Beheer office complex in Apeldoorn. Filmmaker Patrick Minks and architect Herman Hertzberger investigate the social and architectural value of this structuralist building, precisely at the time when it is being renovated. A successful transformation will finally reveal the added value of what Hertzberger considers to be the core principle of structuralism: adaptability. The title of the film is therefore taken from Hertzberger’s claim that this transformation will be ’the proof of the pudding’. After the film, René Erven, coordinator of the Eindhoven Architecture Center, will have a talk with Laurens Jan ten Cate, architect-director of Architecture Studio Herman Hertzberger. The film The Proof of the Pudding is part of a diptych about architecture. Friday March 17th Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven and Natlab will also screen Depot – Reflecting Boijmans by Sonia Herman Dolz. This documentary takes the viewer into the shared dream of architect Winy Maas (MVRDV) and former Boijmans director Sjarel Ex: the creation of the world’s first fully publicly accessible museum depot. On the basis of archive material from Bouw Museum Boymans, attractive parallels are also drawn with the construction of the current museum building in the 1930s.
